Manjoo Rashida. Report of the UN Special Rapporteur on Violence against Women, its causes and consequences. (2013).
Description

Many countries are witnessing a significantly disproportionate rate of increase of women being incarcerated. Throughout the world, women prisoners face similar human rights violations relating to the causes that lead to their imprisonment, the conditions they face in prison and the consequences of their incarceration.  The UN Special Rapporteur on Violence against Women in her report focuses on drug policies to highlight the impact of drug enforcement on the rights of women. The further report illustrates that there is a strong link between violence against women and women’s incarceration, whether prior to, during or after incarceration. Links between women drug use and vulnerability to violence has been made in the report to call upon the governments for the creation of protection measures.
