Strengthening the capacity of civil society organisations (CSOs) and community-based organisations (CBOs) to implement Global Fund grants and advocate for the sustainability of HIV and TB programmes in EECA

Project goal and objectives: to improve the capacity of CSOs and CBOs involved in Global Fund processes to successfully implement Global Fund grants, provide quality services, and represent their constituencies through the facilitation of advocacy activities and the provision of technical support based on a peer-to-peer approach.

Key activities: included organising one regional seminar, which gathered civil society representatives from the Russian-speaking countries of Belarus, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Tajikistan, and Ukraine, as well as 3 national-level seminars for civil society representatives in Tajikistan, Georgia and Azerbaijan; organising policy briefings on the Global Fund policies; providing regular communiqués on the activities of the Civil Society Action Team (CSAT) and relevant Global Fund related processes; and establishing and maintaining communication channels between members of the Global Fund Board Delegations and civil society representatives.

Expected results: included achieving that CSOs and CBOs are able to better understand the current processes and structure of the Global Fund and to address the key problems they face in implementing Global Fund HIV and TB programmes in EECA; CSOs and CBOs that implement harm reduction programs financed through the Global Fund are more empowered to develop and deliver quality services to people who use drugs; and CSOs and CBOs are more engaged with the Global Fund structures and are able to better respond to changes and processes related to the Global Fund as well as able to advocate more actively for revisions to the Global Fund policies, procedures, and mechanisms ensuring that the interests of key populations are represented within Global Fund structures.
