2016 is the second year of the new EHRN strategy for 2015-2019. In 2016, EHRN started six regional projects and continued with several long-term programs. Hundreds of politicians, community leaders involvement and experts played an active role in EHRN’s events and activities.
According to EHRN strategy for 2015-2019, our mission is to promote humane, evidence-based harm reduction approaches to drug use, with the aim of improving health and protecting human rights at the individual, community, and societal level. EHRN Strategic Goal for 2015-2019 is to strengthen advocacy by EHRN members, civil society and community of people who use drugs (PWUD) in Central and Eastern Europe and Central Asia (CEECA) and by our allies/partners at the national, regional and international levels for:
• Financial and programmatic sustainability of harm reduction programs that meet the needs of people who use drugs, communities, and the public at large (Strategic objective 1);
• Non-repressive and enabling legal and law enforcement environment that ensures the fulfilment of civil and human rights of PWUD (Strategic objective 2).
The key principle of our advocacy is that the community of people who use drugs needs to be involved in the decision-making and advocacy processes, which plays a vital role in making states transparent and harm reduction sustainable.
